Basic principles of drying equipment selection
Each kind of drying device has its specific scope of application, and each kind of material can find several kinds of drying device that can meet the basic requirements, but there can only be one suitable. In addition to the high cost of equipment selection, such as high efficiency and low energy consumption, the user should not pay the cost of the whole operation period.The following are the general principles for the selection of drying units. It is difficult to say which one or several items are important. The ideal type selection must be based on one's own conditions, and sometimes a compromise is necessary.
Applicability: firstly, the drying device must be suitable for specific materials, and meet the basic requirements of material drying, including material handling (feeding, conveying, fluidization, dispersion, heat transfer, discharge, etc.), and meet the basic requirements of treatment capacity, dehydration, product quality, etc.
2. High drying rate: in terms of drying rate, materials are highly dispersed in hot air during convective drying, with low critical moisture content and fast drying speed. Moreover, for the same convective drying, different drying methods and different critical moisture contents lead to different drying rates.
3. Low energy consumption ---- different drying methods have different energy consumption indexes. Generally, the thermal efficiency of conduction drying can reach 100% theoretically, while that of convection drying can only be about 70%.
4. Save investment - drying equipment with the same function sometimes has great difference in cost, so the lower one should be selected.
5. Low operation cost: equipment depreciation, energy consumption, labor cost, maintenance cost, spare parts cost, etc. should be as low as possible.
6. The drying device with simple structure, sufficient supply of spare parts, high reliability and long service life shall be preferred.
7. Meet the requirements of environmental protection, good working conditions and high safety.
8. Before type selection, it is helpful to make drying experiments of materials and to deeply understand the drying devices (advantages and disadvantages) already used for similar materials.
9. Do not completely rely on past experience, pay attention to absorbing new technologies and listen to more opinions.
